From what I can see, the analysis of peak demand is sound and correct for the premise it is based on: American. But this is not an American centric world anymore. I could accept that 10% of American using 25% of the world resources. When it decline, it has the impact on demand. The stats show a decline about 1-4% of gasoline depending where you stand. This becomes less than 1% change. But there are 90% of the world's population is growing on their demand. One percent of their demand will compensate the demand decline of the American.

Peak oil is just like the sub-prime mess. Those insiders with any intellect knew what would eventually happen, but knew that they would be able to retire very rich by the time it all fell apart. When the peak oil crisis begins in a few years, the folks in Washington will all retire and leave their replacements to deal with the mess. And like sub-prime, the taxpayer will get the bill as they fly off to the Bahamas to visit their Wall Street bankster puppetmasters.

More of the New York City shell game, smoke and mirrors, infinite spin, doublespeak, hocus-pocus. They are trying to co-opt the Peak Oil Theory and mold it into their own. Incorporate dissent and resell it.

In reality, no amount of rhetoric can beat geology and we at least know that.

Seems to me CERA has just temporarily arrogated unto themselves our words “Peak Oil” with their spin. But who cares besides us. For all the time Daniel Yergin was ridiculing Peak Oil and putting out quite contrary information nobody understood Peak Oil – surely not the media, surely not politicians, and surely not the envromentalist do-gooders – all people we should have been making into believers. When we were being refereed to as those nuts who say we are running out of oil we should have responded “yes.” Then explained. But we were supposed to say “no” and we never did get to explain.

I don’t think CERA has done much damage, and they do look a bit foolish.
