Hey Dave,

Here are a couple of graphs I made of the WTI spot price/difference in same from day to day: from '86-'09:

http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/2521/wtispotprice19862009vol.png

and '00-'09:

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/605/wtispotprice20002009.png

It's noteworthy that the volatility continued even after the price crashed this winter; also that wild price swings were apparent after the invasion of Kuwait in '90, followed by a very stable regimen thereafter, even though GS had it within its power to play around with commodities to its heart's content according to Taibbi. Another weakness in his argument was absolutely no mention of the erosion of both LSC+refining capability to deal with more prevalent crude grades, and spare capacity, which bottomed out around '05. Far more cathartic to lay the blame solely at Paulson's feet.

Thanks for putting this together, into the bookmarks it goes.
