Debbie Cook Motivated by a belief that individuals can make a difference, Debbie Cook has dedicated her life to safeguarding the environment and adding value to her community. She has taken on many challenges in Orange and Los Angeles Counties beginning in 1989 when she led a successful initiative drive that gave Huntington Beach voters a voice in the disposition of their parks and beaches.  In 1994, upon completing law school and earning her license, she joined the Bolsa Chica legal team to protect environmentally sensitive habitat surrounding the Bolsa Chica wetlands.  After five years of legal wrangling , the case set California legal precedent.

New challenges awaited Debbie in 2000 when she was elected to the Huntington Beach City Council, serving as Mayor in 2002 and 2008. During her tenure she served in leadership roles on numerous regional boards and commissions where she promoted conservation of resources and the need to prepare for our energy constrained future.

Debbie is a frequent presenter at conferences, schools, and community groups on the subject of Peak Oil.  She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Post Carbon Institute, and formerly served on the Board of the Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas, both non profit organizations.

In 2008, Debbie was the Democratic nominee for the 46th Congressional District. While unsuccessful in her bid, her well run and competitive campaign attracted much attention and support.
