Now serving his eighth term in the United States House of Representatives, Roscoe G. Bartlett considers himself a citizen-legislator, not a politician. Prior to his election to Congress, he pursued successful careers as a professor, research Congressman Roscoe Bartlett considers himself a constitutional conservative and a citizen-legislator, not a politician. He was first elected to public office representing Maryland's Sixth District in the 103rd Congress and is now serving his ninth term in the 111th Congress. He is a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee. One of three scientists in the Congress and a small business owner for ten years, Congressman Bartlett also serves on the Science and Technology Committee including its Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment. Bianca Jagger is the Founder and Chair of the Bianca Jagger Human Rights Foundation, a Council of Europe Goodwill Ambassador, Member of the Executive Director’s Leadership Council of Amnesty International USA and Trustee of the Amazon Charitable Trust. The BJHRF is a member of the Coalition for the International Criminal Court.

For approximately 30 years, Bianca Jagger has been a prominent international human rights, social justice and climate change advocate. For her campaigns in these areas, Ms. Jagger has been the recipient of many prestigious international awards. On 9 December 2004, she received the Right Livelihood Award, also known as the “alternative Nobel prize,” for putting her celebrity at the service of the exploited and disadvantaged. The Jury recognized “her long-standing commitment and dedicated campaigning over a wide range of issues of human rights, social justice and environmental protection, including the abolition of the death penalty, the prevention of child abuse, and the rights of indigenous peoples to the environment that supports them and the prevention and healing of armed conflicts.”

Charles T. Maxwell, Weeden & Co.’s Senior Energy Analyst, was educated at Princeton University (Jadwin Scholar - Politics) and Oxford University (Marshall Scholar - Middle East languages, literature and history). He entered the oil industry in 1957 and worked for Mobil Oil for 11 years in the US, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In 1968, he joined CJ Lawrence as an oil analyst and was ranked by Institutional Investor as No.1 in his field in 1972, 1974, 1977, and 1981-1986. In addition, since 1984 he has been an active member of an Oxford-based organization comprised of OPEC and oil industry executives from 30 countries who meet twice a year to discuss trends within the energy world. Kjell Aleklett is Professor of Physics at Uppsala University, Sweden, and leader of Global Energy Systems research and the Uppsala Hydrocarbon Depletion Study Group. Carey King, University of Texas

Dr. Carey King studies energy systems, how they work together, how they impact the environment, and how and why humans as a society consume energy resources. He specializes in dynamic systems modeling and nonlinear optimization methods. Much of his recent work has focused on the nexus between energy and water for projecting water demand for electricity generation and alternative automobile fuels. As part of his energy-water studies, Dr. King has authored journal publications, a chapter for the Texas State Energy Conservation Office on the role of water in Texas' energy future as well as a report for the Texas Water Development Board that projects water demand scenarios for future electricity production. Additional work in which Dr. King is engaged includes the economics of carbon capture and sequestration, the design of beneficial combinations of renewable energy and storage systems, and the creation of tools to help the public and policymakers understand the tradeoffs among different electricity generation sources.

Cindy Parker is on the faculty at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she co-directs the Program on Global Sustainability and Health. She is also an Instructor in the Dept. of Earth and Planetary Sciences where she directs the new undergraduate major in Global Environmental Change and Sustainability. Her professional interests include education, policy work, practice, and research on the global environmental topics of climate change, peak petroleum, and global sustainability. As part of her desire to educate the public and policy makers about the health effects of global climate change, she is a frequent speaker on the topic and recently co-authored Climate Chaos: Your Health at Risk (2008). Dave Room is founder of Energy Preparedness (www.energypreparedness.net), a consultancy on relocalization and municipal response to our energy predicament. He also co-founded Bay Localize and coordinates the Local Clean Energy Alliance. Previously, Mr. Room played a key role in many aspects of Post Carbon Institute’s emergence including conceptual frameworks, web design and development, policy, outreach, and fundraising. Professor Rutledge is the Tomiyasu Professor of Electrical Engineering at Caltech, and a former Chair of the Division of Engineering and Applied Science there. David Summers, Missouri University of Science and Technology

Dr. Summers was an Indentured Apprentice in the National Coal Board before going to the University of Leeds to study Mining Engineering in 1962. He obtained his BSc (Class 1) in 1965 and a Ph.D. in 1968. His dissertation on the use of high pressure waterjets to cut rock led to his being hired as an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Rolla. He joined the Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center and was successively promoted until he reached the rank of Curators’ Professor of Mining Engineering in 1980. He has served as the Center Director at intervals from 1976 through 2008, when he retired from that position. He was appointed as Curators' Professor Emeritus in May, 2010.

Ken Zweibel, The George Washington University Solar Institute

Ken Zweibel has almost 30 years experience in solar photovoltaics. During his 26 years at the National renewable Energy Lab (NREL), Zweibel led their development of thin film PV, serving as program leader for the Thin Film PV Partnership Program until 2006. The Thin Film Partnership worked with most U.S. stakeholders in thin film PV (companies, universities, scientists) and is often credited with being important to the success of thin film PV in the U.S. Zweibel subsequently cofounded and became Chairman and President of a thin film CdTe PV start-up, PrimeStar Solar, a majority of which was later purchased by General Electric. Zweibel authored the “Solar Grand Plan,” an article on the path to large-scale solar deployment in the U.S. which was published in Scientific American (January 2008).
